After completing his medical studies at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Dr. Kamal Sawan joined the ranks of excellence in surgical training and training in general surgery and plastic surgery on famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in some of the leaders in the field, both in the cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Sawan moved to Oklahoma in 2003 and soon promoted to chief of plastic surgery in 2005. He currently holds that position as well as other local and national associations and appointments in various companies recognized and respected. Dr. Sawan is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Sawan is a view of every plastic surgeon to keep abreast of all recent developments that improve the quality of care provided to patients. For this reason, participating in at least three national meetings and symposia each year and is the current director of plastic surgery residency program at a local university.

Plastic surgery

is a surgical specialty, which will change the way a person's body looks and feels. The plastic term derives from the Greek word "plastikos", whichPlastic Surgery means to shape or mold. There are two main types of plastic surgery. Reconstructive surgery is a surgical reconstruction failures up the trauma, burns, diseases and congenital malformations. Cosmetic surgery is used to improve the appearance of a human being purely aesthetic reasons.

Cosmetic plastic surgery is performed in normal body parts to improve the patient's self-esteem and perception of attractiveness. Many patients are looking for a younger look renewed. Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed on abnormal body parts due to infections, tumors, diseases and other injuries. Although cosmetic surgery is purely for appearance, reconstructive plastic surgery focuses on improving function, but can help the appearance. More than one million reconstructive surgeries are performed each year. reconstructive surgery are divided into two categories. The first category refers to patients with congenital malformations. The second category includes patients with acquired developmental malformations of accident, infection or disease. Some examples of birth defects are cleft lip, fingers, and birthmarks. The recovery of plastic surgery can be painful. Patients are advised not to take aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. Patients should also avoid smoking and avoid exposure to secondhand smoke for 30 days before and after surgery. Direct sunlight should be avoided and sunscreen should be used when sun exposure is unavoidable. Many patients suffer from depression for months after a cosmetic procedure. A combination of drugs used during and after surgery may contribute to depression. Financial stress and stress related to fear of disfigurement or guilt about the procedure may play a role in depression.
